Toshio Sakamoto… the whole wide world beckoned to him now that he had left the relative safety of his home village and had begun his first outward steps into the wide open world. He had managed to stop by the basic ninja shop in the village Academy however, before he had left, and now he had the tools necessary to learn a number of relatively basic jutsu.
Great Wide World, Here I Come!!! Just you wait, brother, I will find you!!! the young boy thought cheerily.
He pulled out a scroll and a note for 10 ryo out, intending to learn and practice a fairly basic jutsu. He placed the ryo note on the scroll, and focused his chakra into the scroll. A cloud of smoke, accompanied by a slight sucking sound from where the ten ryo note had been, appeared, and the note was gone. Sweet, this was easier than he thought. He tried pumping in his chakra again, and successfully released the ten ryo note. That was good, ryo trapped in an unusable state was nigh useless to him. Satisfied that he had learned the generic sealing and summoning technique or jutsu, depending on who you asked, he turned his attention to another, as he walked along.
The next jutsu he intended to learn, was the Mark Seal, a handy dandy little piece of chakra put onto things, that formed a little black dot, that was, to some degree, trackable. What was interesting that he had read about it though, was that the mark was invisible to chakra vision and to the naked eye, only those versed in the arts of sealing would be able to see it. This of course, left him wondering if he HIMSELF would be able to see the marks he made. At least, after he stopped putting chakra into the marks. He concentrated chakra on a tip of one index finger, and touched it to the opposing arm. He felt a slight glow emanate and when he looked, a small black mark was visible. Removing the mark was also pretty simple, actually, as he was able to erase it simply by concentrating his chakra again on the same spot, from his index finger, without leaving a trace. He could only hope it would work so well while being applied or removed from others.
He paused, unsure what to train next. Noticing a clear, undisturbed water puddle nearby, he grinned, mischievously. If only he had known the Transformation Technique before! He walked up to the front of the clear puddle, the water reflecting the sky above, and obscuring the dirt and muck that formed its bottom. Making the handseals he had previously memorized after a great deal of trouble, he managed to form a web of chakra that obscured his person in a similar way to the water hiding the dirt below it. Unfortunately his disguise was far from perfect, he was easily able to see where his chakra was not concentrated enough, a distorted image of himself peeking through. He dispelled the attempt at the jutsu and tried again. This time was much closer, he was barely able to see himself, or rather, his reflection in the water puddle. He tried one last time, and found himself able to do it quickly without thinking too much about it. Breathing heavily, this being the third jutsu he had attempted to learn in as many minutes, he collected his thoughts, trying to decide what he would learn next.
Aha! While he was at the puddle of water, he knew exactly what he would train. He would learn how to fake the clones that would give the illusion that he was elsewhere. The undisturbed mud puddle would be helpful for trying to spot imperfections, and also for noticing whether the clones were fading when he stopped concentrating on them. He weaved more handseals for this particular jutsu that he had memorized beforehand. He would make sure this was done right, perhaps he could fool his elder brother should he be found again! A hazy imitation of his body appeared to his right, barely reflected in the puddle. Realizing his mistake, He shifted to the side, and pulled the clone along too. There you go. NOW the entire clone was visible in the puddle of water by the side of the road. Sweet. He tried poking the clone with his hands, and his finger passed right through his clone’s head. Wow. He tried making a second one. When he looked to his right, the first clone had disappeared. Oops. He realized he was not paying enough attention to the first of the clones, and was losing track of the details needed to make it realistic. He tried again, perseverance was everything, and certainly what had gotten him out of the village finally, to be able to search for his missing elder brother, after only 2 years of trying to obtain the necessary permissions. Filled with determination, he tried again, one last time, and this time managed to make 2 clones at once, which were both mirror images of himself.
It was then that the small bear came out from behind the bushes. Slowly, Toshio turned around, and gulped. It did not looked pleased to see him there. Nothing like learning on the fly he guessed. There was one other jutsu that might help with this but he would need a diversion. Quickly, using a pebble he picked up as the base, he used the clone jutsu he had just learned, anchoring it on the pebble, so that it could be used for the substitution jutsu. Meanwhile, he used the art of transformation to look at the background, and sneak away for a nearby tree. The bear lunged, dispelling the substitution, and Toshio hurriedly provided another one, while trying to snap off a branch, rather frantically now. The small bear charged, and Toshio slammed it over the head with the end of the tree branch. The only issue with this was that the tree branch merely scratched the bear, and it was not happy. Toshio received a swat to the torso for his trouble, opening up several gashes in his side. Breathing heavily, and limping slightly where he had hit a tree, Toshio changed his grip on the branch, this time holding the leafy end as a make-shift blind, and side-stepping the bear’s next attack. The bear ran straight into the tree, the tree wobbling, and then holding firm. Quickly, Toshio brought the business end, the thick knarly end of the tree branch that had previously been closest to the tree trunk it had originated from, down onto the bear’s skull with an audible crack. The bear took its turn to wobble, this time, while the branch splintered into many smaller bits. Then the bear collapsed. Toshio breathed a sigh of relief. Then he heard the growling of the bear’s mate coming from behind him…. In the end he barely managed to get away and patch up his wounds with some spare bandages, the second bear had gotten distracted by a hive of bees he had knocked from its perch. That was fortunate, as he had not had the strength to break off another tree branch to use as a weapon.
