Roku Ootsutsuki Empty
PostSubject: Roku Ootsutsuki   Roku Ootsutsuki EmptySun May 03, 2015 12:26 pm

Name: Roku Ootsutsuki
Age: 15
Birthday: January 30th
Gender: Male

Appearance: Roku is a boy of considerable size for his age. He is quite tall for his age, measuring in at 5'10" and weighs just over 150 pounds.  His body is well-muscled and developed in a very natural way, so while his muscles are very subtly defined, they are packed very tightly. He is very tan due to his constant time in the desert, especially before he found the village of Ukiyoe.

Roku's facial features are very agular. His nose is nearly triangular and his ears resemble that of an elf due to some of the strange characteristics of his Ootsutsuki heritage. His eyes are a light blue that could cause some, at first glance, to assume that he is blind. His teeth are rather straight though the canines on either side of his two front teeth are more pointed than they should be. His hair is jet black, leading him to cover it when in the sun to defeat the heat of the desert. It points in a bit of a widow's peak and grows neatly to his shoulders.

Unless a specific task calls for other apparel, Roku can usually be found wearing three styles of outfits. His casual attire that he wears around the village during his free time usually consists of tan trousers and a white or tan tunic. His footwear is a pair of boots to ward off the sand of the desert. He also wears a folded white cloth that is tied at his waist that he will tie around his head and drape over his neck to protect from the beating sun of the desert. On his back he almost always wears a camel pack to prevent dehydration. For formal or ceremonious events, Roku wears a white Kimono made from a special fabric that reflects sunlight and filters out heat from the inside. He carries a large protective white headpiece that resembles that of a kage though it lacks any decoration such as the country's logo on the tip. With this, he wears black sandals with the openings covered in thin cloth to ward off sand. Finally, his combat attire is almost the same as his civilian attire, though he drapes several leather straps across his chest from left shoulder to right hip that hold various weapons and supplies, in addition to a light tan pouch below his camel pack to hold scrolls, ink, paper bombs, and other fragile supplies. Finally, his white cloth is tied across his torso from his right shoulder to his left hip and his footwear are a variant of his formal footwear, though tan in color and lacking the fabric covering the gaps.

Personality: In casual occasions, Roku is very friendly and outgoing. He has a habit of sometimes being too playful and turning people off because of it, though he usually has good intentions.  He rarely judges people harshly, and if he can help it, will always avoid listening to rumors to judge people, though he will happily indulge in gossip and he has a habit of complaining to people about almost everything or when he is excited for something he has trouble keeping his mouth shut.

In a combat situation, however, because of his numerous encounters with desert bandits, Roku is overly used to being in danger and is capable of making calm, precise, and calculated decisions, even if those decisions aren't always his best decisions. He will trash talk and taunt his opponent when he believes it will benefit him by getting an emotional or psychological edge over his opponent and will rarely be as angry or emotional as he seems when he does so. Otherwise, he remains very calm and refrains from talking or even speaking the names of his techniques where it can be avoided.

History: Roku Ootsutsuki never knew his parents. Upon his birth, he was given up for adoption and was adopted into a nice travelling merchant family. His adopted mother and father (hereafter just called his mother and father) lived in the deserts of the Wind Country. The couple already had a daughter just two years older than Roku, but they wanted another child, a boy, but his new sister had damaged his mother's body in such a way during childbirth that she could no longer bear children.

The family was nice enough; they took care of Roku as if he was their own, and very soon he may as well have been. In fact, they never told Roku he was adopted, and at this point, he believed his name to be Roku Amegoku.

His father was always quite cheery. He made the best out of every situation and always kept the children in the best of moods. He was the cliche corny dad and never seemed to have a problem with anything. His mother, on the other hand, always had a worn, beaten air about her.  The many years of traveling the desert and never sleeping in the same place two nights in a row has gotten to her. Strangely, the parents refused to tell Roku or his sister, Kira, their real names, always saying that "mother" or "father" would suffice. And everyone always called them Mr. and Mrs. Amegoku. His sister reflected almost the exact attitude as her father.

Growing up, Roku and his family were extremely poor. They didn't exactly have a reliable way to obtain merchandise, so they never had a steady supply of money.  The family almost always slept in make-shift shelters, even when they were in towns, because they couldn't afford to pay for rooms in the inns. Still, the family was generally happy with the exception of Roku's mother who seemed to become thinner and more depressed with every passing day.

At age six, Roku's father began teaching the children self-defense after an incident when a few thieves tried robbing the family of what little cash they had and, in the process, suffered a broken leg while defending his family. It became necessary that Roku and Kira help learn to defend the others. Roku, because of his elite bloodline, excelled quickly, and, within a year, he was able to keep up with his father. He soon surpassed him even.

For the next few years, the family lived in relative peace. They still suffered the occasional bandit or thief attack, but for some reason, Roku was able to defeat grown men despite his age and size, and partnered with his father, they were never in real danger. The fear instilled in him with the first attack gradually became more manageable; the fear for his life never lessened, but he began to learn to control it. Also throughout this time, Roku's best friend became Kira, as he travelled too much to make other friends.

At age 11, this relative happiness disappeared. Kira contracted a heavy fever, and because of the lack of money to provide medicine and shelter, and the extremities of the desert, she passed within a few days.  Horrorstruck, Roku ran. And he ran. He ran until he happened upon two men in white cloaks and masks, whom stopped him and questioned him. Later education told him they were ANBU, but he did not yet know that, and as such, he was terrified of them.

The men questioned him about why he was alone, why he had no adults with him, but it was mostly all a blur of nonsense that he didn't care about. However, the men eventually mentioned something about how Roku's body looked like that of a ninja, and that sparked his curiosity. The boy inquired further and learned that a higher ranking ninja could make enough money to support his family, alone. It wouldn't take much convincing to get his parents to agree to it.

After having lost one child, they abided Roku's wishes to move to Ukiyoe village almost unquestioningly. After some time, both parents were able to find jobs that paid much better than their current travelling merchant occupations and the family was soon able to afford a small, meager dwelling. But to them it seemed to be a mansion. His father had taken over running a small shop because the owner was some big elite and didn't have the time, and his mother worked in an artificial underground greenhouse. Despite the relatively recent loss of her daughter, the colorful plants had a rather strange effect on his mother and livened her up, helping her to break her desert weariness.

It was also during this time that Roku was told by the village elders of his Otsutsuki heritage.  Though he was very angry with his parents, he forgave them after a time, remembering how they'd cared for him. He learned of the possibility that he possessed something called the Byakugan and reserved himself to find out more about this as well.

Likes:

  • Ice-Cream. 'Nuff said.
  • Girls. Roku likes to talk to girls, and while he isn't a pervert per se, he would much rather spend his time with girls than boys.
  • Jokes. Roku loves to joke around with his friends and will tell a joke at any given moment under almost any conditions ranging from something corny to teasing his friends (though not in a hostile way.)
  • Adventure. If it were an option, Roku would be a nomad travelling all over the world to see different things. However, he will settle for the adventure brought on by his time as a ninja.

Dislikes:

  • Cheese. Seriously.
  • Thieves. As a former travelling merchant, Roku has dealt with many bandits and thieves and has an extreme distaste for them.
  • Corruption and abuse of power. Anyone in authority should be able and noble. Period.
  • Inadequacy. Though it doesn't match with the rest of Roku's personality, he absolutely loathes to be under command by anyone he deem inadequate in the areas required by their position of authority.

The sky was blue. Clear and blue.  The young boy spotted a vulture as it screeched overhead, calling his attention.  He squinted as he looked at it, or at least attempted to do so.  The heat in the air caused the details in the scavenger to wave back and forth and fade out of detail.  It screeched again and Roku returned his gaze to the horizon, where the heat off of the sand caused his vision to distort even more.

The young Ootsutsuki placed his hand on the back of his neck, and when he pulled it away, it proved to be wet with sweat.  Noticing this, Roku gripped the cloth slung across his chest and untied a knot near his breastbone. The cloth immediately fell loose.  Holding it in his left hand, Roku tied the cloth over his scalp and draped it over the back pf his neck.  The effect was instant.  He could already feel the pressure from the beating sun lessen on his flesh.

Where most would consider it cumbersome Roku's feet slipped in and out of the sand gracefully, something that came with years of doing nothing but walking on the hot sand of the desert.  Where most would slip and sink, the boy found sure footing as if the ground was solid, the sand concrete.

His destination lay in mind.  By order of the village elites, young Roku was to uncover a plot to raid a village made by bandits nearby.  He judged it to be little more than half a day's walk.  That meant he'd arrive about an hour after nightfall, optimum for the plan he had in mind. He sipped water from the camel pack strapped to his back as his feet dragged across the ground.

This was Roku's first mission alone; it needed to be successful with little to no difficulty.  Roku's hand slipped into the pouch slung beneath his camel pack and he wrapped his fingers around the camera issued to him by the elders that gave him the mission. If the plan was on paper, he'd simply photograph the documents and that would be that. It wouldn't be smart to take them... They'd no doubt notice the documents were missing.

Time passed and the sun streaked across the sky, slowly descending to the horizon. Sundown. Though there was still no change in the boy's pace, walking all day in the desert took a visual toll on him. There was a dark semi-circle in his tunic below his throat, wet with sweat. He panted heavily. He hadn't taken a break from walking in quite a few hours, and in 120 degree weather, it would be impossible to remain unhindered, even for a hardened desert wanderer like young Roku.

Night fell and, as the sun disappeared from the horizon, what seemed to be an encampment of bandits.  To the East of the camp was Roku.  Between himself and the camp were at least four guards, and behind them, the wall to the camp. To the West of what had to be the bandits was an enormous sand dune. That flank was naturally covered. Roku was a few hundred yards away and hidden behind a mound of sand, but the landscape was barren and he didn't have much else to hide behind.

Roku lay for at least an hour. He was under strict orders not to kill, otherwise he'd go right in. And with nothing to hide behind, the stationary sentries would see him coming for sure.  Another hour passed.  The guard changed once, but other than that, the camp remained the same.

He was just debating circling around to the back of the sand dune when he heard some shouting and the men turned around and disappeared behind the walls of the camp.

Now!

The young Ootsutsuki sprang from behind his little sand mound and sprinted to the camp, closing the distance in about a minute.  Taking a peak, he saw the source of the commotion.  A few of the men were wrestling around and everyone else was gathered around cheering and otherwise acting like lunatics. Slipping in and into the largest shelter unnoticed was easy - everyone was focused on the fight.

Inside there was a table, sleeping rolls, and some food. Atop the table was an elaborate map of the surrounding areas, including the village. There were lines and words drawn all across the map that were clearly not printed on the map originally - it was hand drawn.  Be examined the document, trying to make sense of it.  He was not sure what attack plans looked like, but these seemed to be it. After hearing a shout from the men, Roku heard two words; "finish him." He wasn't sure what the rest was, but if they were bidding each other to finish it, there couldn't be much time left. Hurriedly, he took his pictures and slipped out, undetected.

The trip home was faster, easier; the air was much cooler. He made his way back in almost half the time. Upon turning over the data, Roku went home. Hours later, a courier came to Roku's door. He spoke. "Roku Ootsutsuki? I have a message from the mission board. It goes like this: 'Upon review of the data you brought us, it was simply common trade routes marked by the bandits. It was not the attack plans we sought. Mission failed.'"

Mission Failed

Completion bump. I believe Roland has to approve it because I'm requesting a Bijuu, though I may be wrong.
