Personality:If anything, Kozan lives up in an unexpected way to his name: he has given himself completely to his purpose as a servant of the village. He embraces the role,  feeling that even if he were not bound by the command seal, he would have chosen the same path of discarding himself.
Otherwise, he is a kind, gentle being, but usually very quiet, not offering any piece of his mind unless asked to. His ultimate goal has two parts: to make the hokage satisfied, and to die for his village (in some meaningful fashion). After all, one only gets to die once. Better to make it a good one.
History: Kozan was born into the Asura branch of Tanzaku, which was full of hopeless depressed people, who almost always went crazy at some point. Kozan's parents were halfway there,  as evidenced by his name,  which means "I resign" or "I give up". As such, he grew up in a gloomy household, a faintly glowing flower in a house ofcrazed cynicism and sycophantry.
It was this latter property that caused his family to offer him to Kirito as a personal servant just before entering the academy. He was a blank slate with a powerful doujutsu, and after the link was made, he was merely a tool to be shaped in the image of his master, a weapon for the village. In the ninja academy, he studies as hard as he can, in order to try and surpass all... although within him, he knows that his fate is tied to the powerful hokage.
